At the heart of Letters from Star is a dreamer named Kelly — hi!! The first thing you’ll probably notice about me is my messy, wavy "Moana" hair that stays frizzy most of the time! I was born and raised in the Twin Cities, and today I share life with my kind and simple-hearted husband, our Dalmatian Buddy, and our Catahoula pup Patch.
By day, I work in Human Resources, but outside of my 9–5, I’m a night owl fueled by coffee. I love photography, writing, and napping whenever the late afternoon sun hits just right. With a heart drawn to small wonders — stars, carousels, handwritten notes — I see magic in everyday life and believe beauty lives in the quiet details. I love all animals, especially marine life, and while I love star-gazing, I care deeply for the planet here beneath them. My favorite sound is rain, my favorite season is spring, and my favorite comfort food is Khao Poon!
For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of opening a cozy café or a little gift shop. In 2023, I faced a difficult season — work had become overwhelming, and I was battling endometrial cancer. In the quiet moments of healing and reflection, I found myself thinking about my dreams, my should-haves and could-haves, and the person I still wanted to become. Although I’m usually a good communicator, I struggled to put what I was feeling into words. So, I wrote a poem — “Little Star.” It was the first I’d written in years, and it helped me begin to process the emotions I had been holding inside.
During recovery from a hysterectomy, I picked up penpalling as a creative outlet. It rekindled my love for letter writing — and sparked a new love for stationery. Rooted in hard work, creativity, and quiet resilience, Letters from Star was born. Inspired by my poem, and fueled by a second chance at dreaming, maybe this is where my little gift shop begins.
What I curate here at Letters from Star, I hope to inspire you to slow down with intention, create with heart, and rediscover the quiet beauty woven into life’s simplest, most meaningful moments.
